Older man, in his own home uses a 22 revolver to defend himself against an attacker and gets a stiffer penalty than the attacker gets. His revolver was not registered, he had owned it for more than 40 years. The man took the safe way out and did a plea bargin, nor sure if he did the right thing.

seems kinda on the up and up though, he didnt get charged with shooting him, just with having a non registered , so in reality, this one is legit imo

But it doesn't make sense that the attacker received a lesser sentenced then a the person defending himself with a non-registered gun. Just shows what the legal system thinks of us gun owners. Apparently having a non-registered gun gets you in more trouble then physically assaulting someone. That scares me.

You're confusing legal system with justice system.

I don't think the sentences strike the right "balance".

Despite multiple criminal actions the bad guy got a conditional sentence, in other words if he keeps his conditions he has no criminal record. Given the seriousness of his actions the least he should have gotten was 12 months of probation which would mean a criminal record although 6 months of jail time as well wouldn't offend me.

On the other hand the victim is an outstanding citizen with a career of public service in a risky environment. The handgun was even obtained to protect himself and his family in the risky circumstances he served in. He poses no threat to the public. His "crime" was a victimless paper crime. He is the one who should have gotten a conditional sentence.

I think when they talk about "illegal" guns, they need to think concept.
How is the gun illegal? There's a huge difference between a gun that an otherwise law-abiding person failed to register and one that was procured by a known criminal in a burglary or through shady channels.
