How About A Concealed Carry Section?

Hey all.

With the wack load amount of Canadians getting CCW permits for the states, what about a CCW section?

Moderators, penny for your thoughts?

Something for the discussion of legalities, what holster, ammo type of stuff.

Just a thought. I know there are U.S. based forums, but since it would be more for a Canadian content and what hoops we have to jump through when going over the boarder.

OK by me. Doubt I'll ever get the CCW for Washington State purposes (I travel there once a year) but I do belong to the USCCA and post articles from time to time.

I tried to make a sales pitch to Foxer for this already a few months ago. I would still like to see a CCW/ATC Forum!

pontcanna the Utah permit is accepted by Washington State!

I have suggested it twice before, and been turned down both times.
I understand there are some others that are trying to start up a separate (separate from CGN) forum for concealed carry, although it is not up yet.

We already have CCW in Canada. It is called a type III ATC. The problem is that the CFO's of each Province get to decide who gets them and who does not. If you are politician, Judge, or very rich chances are you'll get one. Everyone else you're on your own.

We can work to change that. The important thing to keep in mind is that it already exists so we are half way there.

CCW is different from ATC's. ATC's are issued in Canada and CCW refers to permits issued in the US. Many Canadians have a CCW. If you get the Utah/NewHampshire combo offered by safeguardguy you can carry concealed in 30 different States.

Who the hell is Safeguardguy? He is a member of CGN who regularly travels accross Canada offering the very same CCW courses that you think are a waste of time.

A CCW section would be great, but.........

Sorry to be a party pooper, but I can already see that there would definitely be some problems with a forum. Specifically, because we don't have CCW in Canada, there is very little practical experience here, relative to people in the US.

This opens the forum up to both those people who are serious, and do carry in the US and also to "questionable" comments. All you have to do is to look at the thread about "What Caliber Would you Carry for CCW". Lots of "cowboy" type answers. Yes, I know that many of the responses are not serious, but if an uninformed person is reading the threads, comments can, and will be taken out of context.

CCW is a serious undertaking with potentially serious consequences. It would be great, but only if the discussions remain serious so they don't leave the wrong impression.

Suggestions anyone?????

Can't make decisions based on "what might be said", I say it would be a good idea since many (read many) Canadians have US CCW permits and it would be nice to be able to compare notes, even if it is US applicable. Some here also have ATC permits, so having all the info in one spot would be nice. As far as any asshats contribution to that forum, well that is what Posting rules are for and moderators, it could also be a usergroup requiring that one applies for access. Make dumbass comments and out you go, simple.

I may be wrong but I dont think Washington State accepts non resident Utah permits.

I agree with you that decisions can't be based on what might be said.

My comments were based on what had already been said in the thread that I mentioned and other threads that discuss various aspects of CCW.

CCW won't happen in Canada in the short term, but it needs to be discussed in an open group to get more people used to the idea that people are responsible and CCW for self protection is not an alien concept.

Right now, many discuss CCW with the same giddyness as getting their first gun, resulting in dumb comments.

Yeah, let's have a CCW forum so Laserlips & RichardOldfield can post pics of more of the cool little guns they can have south of the border...:p

NAA, does this mean it would be the only forum we would be allowed to post pictures of our "too evil to be owned by Canadians/Canadiens" handguns on?

Regards,

Richard:D

I hear ya, unfortunuitly that's human nature, but required if we are to evolve in our giddyness. In the many years I have been involved in guns my perspective had greatly changed and so has my giddyness, although I can't stop myself from making the odd non-CP comment just to piss off the anti's (they need to evolve also and pull that carrot out of their a$$).

That's why I suggest a usergroup approach, and also keeping a tight control on the giddyness, if a member steps out of line then he/she can be pulled from the group without banning altogether.

If we don't get ATC/CCW out of the closet, it definetly will never happen, although with the Safeguard program this topic has seen more air time then in the past and it makes it all the more real and not just a fantasy.

Have a giddyfull day :)

Alliston Rod And Gun

Our club site (http://www.allistonrodandgun.com) has a CCW forum.

We just started the site as our club has grown a bit, so the posts are pretty sparse.

We helped to organize the Utah course at the Nottawasaga, and as a result a few membes wanted a place to discuss the practical side of carrying in the US. A number of us have or will be using our Utah CCW in the near future.

Feel free to join up and talk about what you like.
