My buddy has a pre-ban m-14 by norinco that he bought in the states just before the ban. its not stamped m305 its just a m-14.

It shoots 3/4 of an inch at 100 yards.

I have hear that the m305 model at best shoot 3 inches and the polytech models are even worse.

I am thinking of getting a norinco m-14 m305 from wolverine but is it worth it?

has anyone here shot 3/4 with a m305?

any input would be great, thanks guys.

I think it's getting better slowly as the barrel gets shot in. The right load is important.

Ignore the circled shots. It's not ¾" groups, but it's not handloads either. Crappy Norinco green box stuff. I think they're not too bad, considering.

From what I have read, its a hit and miss, but the newer ones are most likely better then the older ones. With a bit of tuning they could keep up with the more expensive made ones, a good tune costs around $300 or so, more if you start replacing major parts. but thats still around $700, which is just over 1/2 the price of a Springfield M1a.

I plan on getting one this summer and having it tuned.

Mine is a typical 3 MOA rifle, and it's not the tightest M14 around. A friend of mine has one that out of the box was tight enough to give a sustained ring when you let the bolt slam forward. He says it shoots really well, but I can't put a number to that for you.

But 3/4 MOA? I have only heard of one other M14 that shot that well. This particular out-of-the-box Norinco was capable of astounding 3/4" groups at 300M!! Swear to god, the owner himself, the very man who printed the groups, told me this face-to-face!! He carefully explained that one time, he set up a target at 300M, and fired three shots. When he went down, 2 shots were 3/4" apart, and the third was several inches away. Now obviously, he says, that one shot was "a bad round", and therefore the other 2 shots told the story: his rifle was printing 3/4" groups at 300M!! He hadn't got around to doing any more shooting at that distance, but he was eagerly telling anyone who was curious about the amazing accuracy of his Norinco.

So, umm, have you ever seen your friend shoot a 3/4 MOA group?

A single group at 300m means nothing. Get him to repeate it a few times otherwise hes full of BS.
When you do some simple tweaks and mods you can make a Norinco/Poly M14 pretty accurate. If you want it to be like a bolt gun you will need to invest quite a bit into the rifle.

I just rescoped my Norc shorty with another Leupold, better mount and better scope and it still shoots 1.25-1.5 inch groups at a 100 with milsurp ammo, also the scope is 1.5-5 power so at a 100 yds a 1 inch square is pretty much covered up. This is only slightly better than my Remington shoots with that ammo and tells me that with better ammo and a more powerful scope you could do better, but who cares, obviously you don't buy one of these for a benchrester, they're for fun and will be deadly on anything with a coffee can size vital zone out to 300 no problem. In the real world most of the people talking sub moa are either kidding themselves or are handloaders shooting serious guns, which I am not, buy one and giver.

My old tuned Nork M1A with Norinco ammo put out a dismal result.

But which it to Federal Match 168gr and my results dramatically improved.

That was the best I got out of it and sold it a bit after that so I really can't say that it would do that all day but it does show that accuracy can be obtained from the fine rifles.

you can sure tell the guys that are using the cheap milsurplus ammo- just LOOK at the responses- with LOAD DEVELOPMENT my circa 1990 norc with a 4x12x40 will shoot quarter sized 5 round groups all day- benchrested, bipod down, plate up, and the sling on ultratight- and if i hold my breathing- that alone opens your group up a good 4 inches

M14S, scoped, and it gets 1.5" five shot groups at 100 yards using Federal Blue Box hunting ammo. I'm ok with that, but I get a wandering zero, left-right. I've made some changes and I'll see this spring if I've cured it.

i am getting 2"-3" MOA with NATO ammo, bench rest, open sights 100 yrds with a 2007. i shimmed it, replaced spring rod guide, added USGI stock. still needs breaking in.

Wind? Don't underestimate even 100 yard wind.

Good thought, but my bolt action 308 doesn't get affected by wind like that. The wander is something around 3" change in centre of the group. My guesses are that its either a faulty scope (that Burris's service depot says is fine), mount (smith m21, locktited and now has some JB weld under it as well) or something to do with the barrel pressure shifting at the tip of the forend of the stock. I need to try another scope on it.
