How are overall results calculated?

A stage gets assigned stage points based on the most possible points that can be attained on it. (Ie 32 round stage - 5 points per A - 160 point stage. 8 round stage - 40 points.)
Whoever shot the best hit factor (points divided by time) on the stage gets 100% of the stage points.
Everyone else that shot that stage is divided into the stage winners hit factor to determine what percentage of the stage winner they were. They get that percentage of stage points.

Everyone's stage points are added up and that is their total overall score for the match.

Okay that's pretty straightforward. Thanks for the explaination. I think what was confusing me is that I've seen results where I've beaten someone in my division match results, but they come out ahead in the overall match results. Makes sense now...I think.

While practiscore offers an "overall result" it's completely unofficial and only for comparison purposes. IPSC results are only ever within a division. Divisions can't be combined for an award.

Why you have different results in the unofficial vs official would be because the official - your division results would only have winners of stages in your division. In the unofficial overall results, another division shooter can steal points changing How many points you get. Ie Open shooters have a significant advantage on the production shooter, and it only makes sense that if combined; it would skew results.

[edit: Seeing FV post, it appears I misunderstood. I will leave this here anyhow]

All it takes is you doing very poorly compared to your buddy on one stage, when you *just* beat them on the other 5 stages, and you may still lose. You may have lost so many points with one bad stage, that it's tough to recover.

What you can also draw from this, is even if you are losing to your buddy, stage after stage, never give up. Keep with your plan, stay focused, and do your best. It may be you hitting one out of the park to earn that beer afterwards. :)

This is an excellent topic and should be stickied as very few know how the actual scoring is calculated. To have it all broken down in a nutshell, if you are going to tank a stage, hope that it is a short speed shoot and NOT a field course :). Thanks FV for providing that detailed explanation!

So is it safe to assume that I would have the same standing in overall (all divisions) results if I was shooting minor in either Production or Standard?
