I got one picture on my trail cam the other day.it was this one.how big do you think this guy is?I think it is kind of hard to tell from the angle.I know he is no bruiser but would you shoot him in the last week?what do you think he would score?I know he's not a wall hanger but I always think deer are bigger than they are when they are on the ground.what do you think?

Nice size

Looks to be a 120 class. A good buck and I'd take him but you won't get into any books with that one.

yup id say about 125 maybe 130 max... but hey I shot a 120 class this year by mistake... so don't take my word for it.

I don't see any brow tines, so I am going to say 125 class.
Wouldn't matteer to me however if he were legal he would hit the dirt!
( unless he had a doe with him, then I'd take her!):dancingbanana:

Big horns and unfilled tags make lousy sausage. Not all people hunt for the trophy. Some of us hunt for the basic fun of it and eating what you take with friends and family is the biggest trophy of all. Write that in the Boone and Crockett book:mad:

Ditto. No matter how long I simmer them or how much gravy I cover them in, I still cant get those horns to taste good.

Id be busting a round into that deer in the first 5 minutes of the season with no hesitations at all! then he would be goimng for full shoulder mount!

Weather to shoot or not always is a bit of a delema and something you should try to work out before you have a deer in front of you.

What are you interested in harvesting is a big factor. If you are only interested in meat then you may want to shoot the first legal deer you see. If you have never shot a buck or a "large antlered buck" then something with a few points could impress you and you would shoot.

However if you want a really big "trophy" buck and know what that means (say a 5X5 scoring 150 B&C or better), then you HAVE TO HOLD OUT FOR IT.

I love to eat venison and so does my family. So I try to take a doe or two on one or more of the special antlerless permits avalible. Then I can use my general white-tail tag and hunt for a BIG buck. Towards the end of the season if I do not have venison yet I will shoot a doe instead of a small or medium buck. There have been years I put my "buck tag" on the Christmas tree. And there have been years when I have shot some wallhangers.

The buck in the picture I would shoot with a bow or a muzzleloader but not with my rifle. (but that is just me, I can not advise you what you should do))

If you have the time you should wait untill the last week like you said. Lots of time still, probably worth waiting. Bucks like that are a dime a dozen in Alberta and if you are looking for a big buck, I would wait a while.

Dont take our word for it though, if you like him and would be happy that is all that matters. They are all trophies, some are just bigger than others.

let him go, let him grow. I cannot believe how many people are meat pigs.:(

Meat ,and the enjoyment of hiunting is why I hunt.
Antlers are not why everyone hunts.
I could care less about the size of a buck's antlers.
My rattlers are twice that size, and I have been ridiculed by some for not putting them on a wall.
So what, it's not why I killed the critter.

I guess I should clarify

things a bit. I can see shooting smaller bucks in isolated areas where there is not a lot of hunting pressure or in areas that are basically no mans land. When you start taking these bucks in areas with higher pressure there is never any time for there genes to get passed on. Thus never the opportunity to see the big deer. I know it cause I have seen it in areas where I hunt.

Yes U cannot eat horns but there are some of us out there who are starting to find that the need to kill is not the same as it once was. I had flatheads and calves this year as years in the past that I could lasso and slit there throats but I let them go hoping that one of them calves may one day grow up being that special something.

I sometimes wonder even then if I would pull the trigger.
