Can anyone help provide some insight on specifically what I should be checking for to see if my mauser model 98 is matched or unmatched?

Which parts and where?

Thanks in advance for the help.

If its German made, basically every part will be numbered with at least the last two digits numbers even the screws for the older models.

Start with telling us the manufacturer code on the receiver and the year...from there we can guide you based on known matching examples. Just remember, any K98 is awesome, regardless of being matching or not :)

Well, if it is German, it depends upon the year, so pick one that matches the year you have from the Germany - Milsurp Knowledge Libraryhttp://www.milsurps.com/content.php?r=123-germany&page=2 and compare the markings to the thousands of pics in the various photo montages.

Here's a typical example …

1939 Code 147 K98k (Karabiner 98) Riflehttp://www.milsurps.com/content.php...-(Mfg-by-JP-Sauer-und-Sohn-Gewehrfabrik-Suhl) (Mfg by JP Sauer und Sohn Gewehrfabrik, Suhl).

If it's another country, select the country from the left panel that you think it might be ...

Pics posted here would also help …

Doug

If its a professionally made sporter model, there may be no numbered parts to follow on the rifle except the receiver possibly.

Post some pictures of your rifle and we'll help you out as best we can.
