good day everyone:

I got a new to me rem 788 in .222rem its a first year gun.
while working up a load with the classic h4198 and 50gr v-max,20.1 gr gives me 3100fps,while 20.3 gives me 3400+fps!
how can this be when 20.5 is supposed to give me a little over 3100fps according to the hodgson label.
loads were shot over a chronograph 12ft from the muzzle.

any ideas on why my speed is so high with the 20.3gr load?

Does Hogdgen specify the brass and primer. If you aren't using the same componentss they used, you could end up with the difference you noticed. For instance, if the brass is thicker and the case volume less, pressure and velocity could both increase.

That does seem right.

Could be a muzzle flash issue.

Try at a longer distance, like 15 or 20 feet.

I'll bet you are using a Chrony.....................and the light changed.............
