Just noticed an Uberti 1873 Revolver rifle on the EE and saw it carried a NON-RESTRICTED status. Yet, Taurus made a similar rifle that is deemed "a handgun variant" and was given a restricted status. WHY the difference?? Seems like a bad case of splitting hairs. Either one looks to be "convertible" into a handgun with just a hacksaw..................................... Is it just me?

The reason, says the rcmp, is that the frame on the Taurus is original pistol, with a longer barrel. The frame is restricted. The uberti modified the frame for a proper rifle stock, and you can't just throw a normal pistol grip on it.

The non technical answer is that you are trying to see the sense in firearm classification in Canada when the reality is that there is none. Why are all AR-15 variants restricted when many other black rifles sold in Canada are not?
My Kel-Tec Sub 2000 which folds down to something you could put in a lap top case is non restricted with its 18.5" barrel where my Beretta CX-4 with it's 16.5" barrel, but no folding capability is restricted. I know it is all about the barrel length, but the Kel-Tec is easily concealed.
