Hey guys sorry to bring up a gross topic, but I'm just curious how common is it to find tapeworm cysts in moose meat? This is my first time butchering my own meat and you guessed it! Ive come across half a dozen of these. cp:

Now I am certain they've been present in moose I have had in the past, or at least my meat has run through the saws as someone else's moose that has had them. I am certain the butcher doesn't clean their equipment after each moose processed. I know humans cannot be infected this way, but it is still in the back of my mind!

So help me feel at ease fellas!

I use a moose with tapeworm cysts for sausage. Just don't like the idea of cutting into a steak and seeing one. Just a problem in my mind, no other reason.

Since these pose no hazard to us humans, I choose to ignore the fact that my moose may/may not have them.

If I see any during butchering, etc, I just cut them out. They definitely become invisible in moose burger.

Regards, Dave.

I have seen them in a moose from the manning area. They don't bother me at all. I was told by the vet who I had inspect the cysts to never allow my dog to eat raw the meat.
