How do I determine which of my 3 SKS's is most accurate?

I want to put a rail on one of my SKS's with a 4x scope but want to put it on the most accurate of the 3. Kind of a newb question but is there a way of determining accuracy without mounting the rail and scope to each gun to see which shoots tightest groups? Thanks in advance!

ps. Would 5 consecutive shots fired from a led sled give indication of tightness of groups or does the sled jump around and need to be reset after each shot?
 
What kind of rail do you have? I have a NC star receiver cover that has an attached rail rail for a short scope. Was considering this as a future hunting mod. I too have 3 SKS'S that need a good sight in trial. One of them is nice shoots about 5 inch groups with irons at about 80yrds at the cottage in the woods. They are nice shooting rifles. Laser boresight wise all of them seem to line up well with the irons.

Do you think the shell deflectors are essential or should I roll without.

From what I've read it's a lot more sturdy then some of the other mounting systems although you lose your ability to top feed with stripper clips. Not sure about the shell deflector, I think smaller scopes might be ok as they are out of the way enough.

I had to knock the snuff box off the nail before I could take a 22 by myself . Shoot at the nail at 25 yds with each gun and see which one wins
 
first you'd need to zero your irons brah !!!!!! ...... laser bore sighters are for chumps...they are made in china and if you spin it in your barrel it will show you a different point of impact everytime, not very precise, and will not gauge the accuracy properly....you wanna find out which one shoots best......get your led sled, and 25 yards at the range, take the meat and potatoes out of the reciever and led sled that thing, look down your barrel and line up your iron site without moving the rifles around...do for all three, then fire your test groups....select best shooter from the bunch :) you're welcome
 
NI still have to test my NC star stuff on the SKS. Btw my 22's red dot and the small scope that came with the set from marstar I should be able to have some fun messing with it.
I am not sure how this long sight rail holds zero between cleaning as it must be removed otherwise I like it.

Bore sight laser isn't the best in the world but gets you started and saves you killing a tree 1 ft beside your intended target (yes and as per my buddy at the cottage and tree has fall down, I cut a tree down with an SVT. About 12 shots 203 MFS so point to a approx 6 inch maple)
 
As others have said, sandbag or lead sled the guns and fire for groups (don;t worry about point of impact) using the same ammo for each rifle. The one with the tightest groups likely has the most potential.
 
You can automatically eliminate one if it moves forward and back in the stock. An accurate SKS will have no play at all and be tight to reassemble. If all of yours shift inside the stocks you'll want to have one bedded in acraglass or JB Weld.

You don't even need to go that far. The issue is wood compression behind the rear tang. You can glue a hardwood shim there and file it down until the receiver just goes into the stock. That will tighten it up and improve accuracy significantly.
 
IMO, 5 shots of surplus is not enough to tell you which is most accurate.. There is too much variation in the ammo itself. Shoot one gun at a time at each target. Take 10 shots per target in total. Watch the barrels don't get too hot.

I would do the groupings at 50 yards rather than 25 to increase the differences.
