Have an 84 stamped CZ75 that I bought in '85.
It still wears Browning Hi-Power grips (I modified) as no aftermarket parts existed at that time.
Was the first firearm I used when taking my Black Badge and was the only 9mm I owned until I purchased my daughters S&W M&P
(Its mine until she passes her RPal when she is old enough).

I like the gun. It shoots very nicely and groups well.

My only annoyance with the gun is that it retained the old school (Read European) magazine retaining mechanism where magazines have to be grasped and ripped out of the gun. They will not drop free by themselves when the magazine release is activated.

Not being a CZ expert I thought I'd ask those on the forum who may know how to remedy the situation.
Is it possible to retro-fit the gun with newer CZ75 parts that will allow the magazines to drop free on their own accord?

Sometimes the flat spring in the frame: magazine brake needs to be tweaked some to allow the magazine to drop freely. I have a few older CZs and some will work/wont work with certain magazines. Try the mag brake first.

You can get a thicker, non retaining mag brake from CZ that is like the one on the Shadow. If your's is held in by one pin and the mainspring plug it should work.

Take the slide off, insert a magazine and see if it is binding on the front of the sear cage or "ejector housing" this is common on some of the older guns. I have found on some of the older guns the tolerances vary including the magazines. I have one CZ frame that will not drop any magazines that I have. If it is in fact binding on the front of the sear cage, some light work with a file can fix it. Let me know how you make out, we should be able to sort it out.

I have the same problem with my 2006 CZ75. The mags drop free with slide forward but not when it's locked back. I flattened out the mag brake a little bit and it seemed to help a bit but not much.

Although I don't know much about the older CZ's I find my Shadow is rather sticky this way and it's 100% better when I use silicon spray on the mag and well every time it's not dropping freely.
