Fellows,
I just got a K98 and I'd really like to know year of manufacture as I will likely want to get a matching bayonet and such. I can't find any obvious (to a guy who knows nothing about K98's) year markings, but I'll tell you what I've got:
Serial: 54XX On barrel and reciever
On barel: G1 "X" 55 The "X" looks like a symbol very much resembling a small x.
On the side of the reciever as well there are three symbols, each identical, each sort of squarish and resembing chinese writing (which it isn't of course, but that's as good as I can describe it). These same three symbols appear on the barrel below the front of the rear sight.
There is what appears to be a funny looking 'f', fairly large, on the reciever and the barrel on the other side of the reciever from the three symbols.
Eagles with swastica's peened on this side as well.
EDIT - On top of the receiver ring I just found "7,92" does that help?
Can anyone ID this, or do you need pics?
