Hey Guys, I need some advise on how to hunt and kill Black bears, for hopefully this spring hunt. I have a 300 win mag and that should do the job. I can't use bait in BC but can I cook for hours? Days? haha, j/k. Just looking to find any tips and tricks in how to go about catching me one of them. Is there anyone who needs some one to help? Can I tag along with your party, I promise to be entertaining, and a hard worker, I can cook and skin and gut anything I kill. Looking forward to it Dave.

What part of Vancouver are you in?

Black bear iis most commonly hunted by driving logging roads, checking for sign When you start to see alot, get out at walk, glassing clearings.

When I lived down in the lower mainland, my uncle and I went up to the back of PITT Lake frequently. Lots of bears back there. The last I checked, there wasn't any real roads to get there, you had to take a boat. That was over 10 years ago, so things may have changed.

PITT Lake is north of Pitt Meadows and PoCo. Good Luck!

There's almost no logging roads you can go down and not see SOME bears. Gatehouse pretty much gave the the short version of the most successful methods - bears don't actually crap in the woods, they crap on the road :) go slow and you'll see it. Stop a fair distance from clear cuts and glass them for quite a while. Sometimes it's easier from across a valley. If a bear shows up in a clear cut today, there's a pretty good chance he'll be there tomorrow.

In BC I believe you have to use the quarters of black bear for meat. It cant be wasted. That being said, what is best to do with it? Do some people take it to dog food manufacturuers?

Bear meat (especially Spring bear meat) is awesome.
In fact in Roasts and Burgers, I prefer it to any game meat I have ever eaten except MAYBE Moose. Moose steaks are definitly better but the roast and burgers are comparable.

just make sure you are not hunting near any landfills... there are no longer landfills in NB where I hunt.
