How do I Lighten a Mosin's Trigger?

My M38 has a brutal trigger.
It has a long heavy creep before it goes snug, then an even heavier pull before it breaks.

I generally like the 2 stage military triggers, so I dont mind a bit of slack, I just want my mosin to break cleanly so I dont have to jerk on the trigger at the exact moment I'm trying to steady the rifle.

I've heard of shimming? What does this entail?
