I've recently moved to Vancouver, and I have a friend back in Alberta who wants to buy my pistol from me... However seeing as I am a broke-a$$ now, I am not a member of a range, therefore don't have a long term ATT out here. Basically I'm just wondering what are my options on getting that out to him?? I guess I need an ATT just to get the thing to the post office right? but then do I have to trigger lock it too? AND a locked case?? Cause thats just more cheese outta my wallet.. Whats the protocol? I'd appreciate any feedback.. A guy at a nearby gun store said as soon as its in a box its considered a package and not a gun..but if that was the case I'd carry my gun around in a cardboard box all day long!

After transfer approved, a short term ATT will be issued. Mailing is different than transporting. If you want put a cable tie or a cheap trigger lock on it. Deffinantly "signature required and insurance options", Make sure it is packaged very well.

Your friend in AB might be able to help you as well

I just bought a couple handguns and this is what went on with me.....Just phone cfc and start the transfer , get your friend to finish the transfer ...the cfc will contact you and tell when its ok to ship...a plastic tie wrap on the trigger is sufficent ..no trigger lock required.

My last handgun showed up in a cardboard box and the one before that came in a plastic case...if you have a plastic gun case for it use a plastic tie wrap on the lock on the case as well

Good news for you:

You do not need to trigger lock it in any manner whatsoever. No plastic ties either.

Also, you do not need to put it in any kind of locked case. Just use any sturdy cardboard box, and package it with the same care you would use on any other item worth several hundred dollars.

Yup, that's how I ship mine.
