How do measure barrel to find the choke size?

Picked up a Pardus 12 guage 18" barrel last month from Wholesale Sports.
It has a fixed choke but does not indicate on barrel what it is.
What are the measurements or the various chokes that i might compare.
I thought there was a thread here from a while ago , but as usual the search never seems to work for me.
Thx
Kim

You would need to know both the bore diameter, and the ID of the barrel at the muzzle. to determine the constriction, but in general those short barreled shotguns usually are cylinder bore.

As a fairly rough guide, does a dime slip into the muzzle with a fair amount of play on each side? If so, it could be cylinder bore. If it doesn't go in it's full choke but likely a short barrel gun won't have the full choke. Most accurate way to determine is by using method described above.

A boregauge is the best way to measure the numbers described above. I have one and live in Woodstock, Ontario, if you want an accurate measurement, PM me.

Thanks for the hints.
I forgot, I do have some inside calipers buried in the tool box.
My handles are only 5" or 6" long.
By the look of yours it takes measurements about 12 -16 " inside?
Is that to get the taper too?

Thx

If the ID at the muzzle is the same as it is 3" from the muzzle, then the gun has no choke, which is what I expect.

I think it will go about 18" into the barrel, so I can check the barrel from both ends. The 18" gets to the middle of the barrel and so you get an accurate bore diameter and as you drag it through the choke you can measure the difference. Works pretty slick.

The bore dia will be from 726 - 734 max so measure the muzzle dia the diffetance between the 2 will roughly be the amount of choke it will have . U can Google a chart that will tell u what it will be closest to exsample cyl. Skeet 1 imp cyl skeet 2 and do on the whole choke thing is a guide at best .
