How Do theses Short 8.5 to 12.5 Inch Pump shotguns SHOOT?

I see alot of excitment about the Short pump action shotguns with 8.5 inch barrels but no info on how they shoot ?

Is there ways to keep the shot from spreading so fast in a short barrel Ect.

I like the Look but want to know how they patern ?

I've never shot one that short but common sense and physics pretty much mean that:

1. Powder won't have the chance to burn in the barrel so as per above ... big flame.
2. Because of 1. you will lose velocity which will cause you to lose range.
3. Cylinder bore + lack of time for shot to settle due to short barrel = giant pattern.
And potentially holes in it depending on what size shot if being used.

The only way I see that one could maybe attempt to keep shot together longer would be to play around with different wads and find something that works. This means you'd have to be set up to reload tho.

Be a descent grouse gun for us guys out east lol.

Should pattern the same at 74 ' 2" as if you used an open choke shotgun with an 18.5" barrel at 75'.

My 12.5" Dlask barrel patterns at least as well as my IC choked 18.5" barrel does, though the shorter barrel brings a LOT more blast and flash to the table, and IMO doesn't handle as well, too whippy.

I think 12 is to short maby 16 is about as short as id want to go.
Is the chamber considerd part of the barrel or do you measure from the chamber forward.
Id think the barrel length includes the Chambers but the gun laws rules are so stupid best to ask.

Ya my 12.5 is as short as i'll ever go, It accurate with slugs and good for birds, I may even look for a extended choke to get an extra inch or two out of her. Now the 8.5 inch mag fed has something to desire, good shell capacity and looks awesome with the pistol grip installed, but I figure she''ll be even louder then the 12.5. I may get a 8.5 mag fed if they ever come out, just because you can holster it like a pistol but I would'nt expect it to shoot or pattern like something with a bit more barrel.

Measure from the bolt face for the barrel length.

In my experience the one I shot shoots high. No more kick and certainly no huge fireball. That would be cool though.

I'll post some info on how an 8.5"er shoots after I get home from shooting later today. Outlaw doesn't seem to have any blast I'd find to be offensive, and it kills hand tossed clays pretty well, and milk jugs don't stand a chance.
