How do you legally store/transport an unbuilt AR Lower?

Seems like a silly question to me but considering the law sees an unbuilt AR lower as a firearm, do we have to loop a lock through it & store it as any functioning restricted firearm??

Also what about transporting it from a store to home?
Same rules as a functioning restricted apply??

Thanks

I keep all my lowers trigger locked and cabled through the mag well and in alocked pelican case in a safe. Keys in a separate room, unmarked so you have to try them all when you do want to unlock. Those lowers are deadly and I couldn’t bear to think what would happen if some psycho got their hands on it.

you need a double trigger lock then the box pelican solidly locked then put in a a locked safe attached to your trunk of your car and getting an escort of the RCMP or local police to your place then the brinks will move it from your car to the vault ...

Same as any built AR. Anytime I have a stripped lower it ended up with a cable lock through the magwell until I'd gotten the trigger installed.

Ok thanks. Good to know. Seems odd but I don't want to be negligent! Still waiting on my RPAL but I'd like to pick up a lower for an eventual future build.

So everything else is NOT cosidered a firearm in its unbuilt state? I would have it locked up anyways but you could legally have an upper & barrel just laying around??

Correct. The upper (with or without barrel/muzzle device, etc..) is just a tube. It's NOT a firearm. There is NO serialized part on it.

ONLY the lower is considered "the gun", and gets a serial number. As it's a "gun" in the eyes of the Law, whether it's stripped or built up makes no difference for transport/storage regs.

Best answer regarding storage/transport I have seen

+1!

I even put a cable lock through the trigger hole inside a locked case when I transported my disassembled colt lower. Felt stupid but as per the law there is no option to have the hammer and trigger removed for transport.
