How do you put a sling on a 597?

You shouldn't need to drill anything 'out' ...just use the sling mounting studs that are already on your 597 'as is' with an appropriate pair of swivels (the swivels have a pins that fit through reciprocating holes on the mounting studs).

As far as size is concerned, make sure that whatever swivels you buy match the size - as in 'width' - of the ends of the sling that you're planning on using.

597 does NOT come with sling mounting studs. Oh well, at least my 597 did not come with it! I am assuming Lucky's 597 did not come with the sling mounting studs either with the way he is asking for advice.

My 597 (.22WMR synthetic) did come with studs ...so I assumed that Lucky was looking for advice on how to use ones that he already had. If there are 'stud-less' 597s out there, then you're probably right ...by the wording of his post, he seems to be looking for info on how to choose and install them.

Pick yourself up an uncle mikes kit. The front stud has a machine stud with a nut. The rear is a tapping wood screw. Drill both holes out a little undersized so the threads can bite. Cover the area around the stud location with tape in case your bit slips. drill through the tape, nice and slow. Use an allen wrench through the stud hole to turn them in. Good luck.
