How do you store you pistols when you have quite a few?

As the title says, those of you who have more than a few (5?) how are you storing them? I keep my pistols on a shelf in my safe. Eventually I had to start using one of those wire racks that holds 6 but I have run out of slots on that and have no room for another for rack so the remainder of my pistols sit leaning on each other on the side of the rack. There don't seem to be a lot of rack options that are not too bulky and nothing that I have been able to find that is modular.
This summer I plan on building a dedicated gun room as opposed to buying a larger safe and I would like some ideas for storage options. I prefer to be able to see them all and not have them in cases or rugs.

How about transportation to the range? Usually I only take 2 or 3 pistols to the range at a time but there are days that I would like to take them all and I am trying to figure out the best solution to take 8-10 in one container.

Share your solutions, thoughts, or ideas and pictures if you are willing to. Here is an older pic of how I have it set up currently.

Perhap consider building a walk in vault so you can have them on display.

I also bring handguns to the range in a rifle case.
Mine fits one non scoped rifle plus 3 handguns.

I made a wooden rack for my storage. I use gun socks to keep them from getting safe kisses and to ward off rust. You can stack handguns - gun socks will keep them protected.

Got a 22" impact resistant case from Princess Auto. Fits 6-8 handguns. You can padlock it too for transport.

I bought an 8 pistol rack like yours, but it fits in my larger safe. I don't like storing the guns in a carrying case, and have several different types depending on what shooting I plan on doing that day.

They're also easier to clean and fondle when in view. For those with larger collections, it's easy to forget what you've got packed away and forgot to clean from the last range trip.

Here is a link to what you require, for a range day case. Made in canada, should fit all your pistols.

Haha, that is pretty cool. I'll admit, I almost didn't click the link as I thought it would be a link to the 6 up which does not suit my needs. Glad I clicked the link though, I had no idea that they make a 15 Up. This may be a serious contender although it does not look like it will accommodate pistols with optics. Thanks for the suggestion.

Key word here... haha.

They do a 20 and up but it looks to be sold out. Their cases are a bit pricey but when you take Into account what your carrying with it, it's actually not that bad.

I have a gun safe door mat that can hold 6 guns + a few in the pockets.

More than 1 safe, humidity controlled of course! And I put them away clean and each has a gun sock....you know, to prevent them from fornicating/kissing each other....

Oh man, I just wrap mine in a hand towel and throw them in a heap.

For transporting several, I have a midsize rectangular rifle case, can fit a half dozen no problem or an AR-15 carbine and two pistols.

I, too, used to try to take too many guns to the range, but when you do - usually - you don't have enough time to do them justice. Sometimes, when there was a lot of range activity, with a lot of strangers, I even found myself worrying about the security (of that which I wasn't carrying). Now, I try to limit myself to one... for each person. Each person wears a holster, and each person carries in the holster. That still leaves the problem of how to best do it.

One option, not the only option or even the best option, necessarily, is Nanuk's 4 Up and 6 Up cases. What I like about them is they allow you to go to the safety area, see all of them (at once), and remove only the one(s) you want, keeping those remaining safely contained (and legal). The case itself, you can easily re-secure and attach to a non-portable structure, per the regulations. That way, even if you're downrange, you can know that you've done your due diligence.

Is there room to get trigger locks in there though? And I don't mean the cheap threaded ones, I have yet to find any keyed or dial locks that are actually slim enough to fit into many standard cases

Yes. If you look closely Nanuk put cut-outs for big locks. I have the Nanuk 4-up and with full size autoloaders and combo trigger locks they don't touch. But I wouldn't want to carry 15 revolvers or all-steel guns. That case *empty* is 15 lbs. Plus 2.5lbs per gun (1911 unloaded) and you're 52lbs. Bring a cart!
