I purchased a Baikal coach gun a few weeks ago; it is a KH model, but it comes with a Baikal recoil pad and does not have as much trim on the action, so I am assuming it is an older version. I like the little bugger, but I would like to have it modified for choke tubes. The Baikal website states that the new KH models have chrome lined bores, which i have read are a b**ch to have modified for choke tubes. Does anyone here have a way to determine if the bores are chrome lined or not?

Usually can tell by looking at them. Chromed barrel will appear highly polished, bright silver colour. Unchromed barrel will be less shiney and polished and more of a grey/silver colour.
It is possible to thread chromed barrels for choke tubes BUT the tooling required is more specialised and expensive, so not all 'smiths will have it. Also there is a greater chance of having problems with a chromed barrel even with the right tools, and some smiths won't touch them for that reason. It's also why you pay more to get chokes put into a chromed barrel.

Take a Q-tip with Cold Blue and put a drop in the muzzle. If the bluing blues the steel its not chromed, if it beads and does not blue the bore its chrome. Thats the simplest test I know.
Very clever. I've got a barrel that may be chromed, but its really hard to tell. Thanks for the idea.
