How do you #### a 1911 with one hand? I hold the 1911 in my hand with my trigger finger on the front of the trigger guard, my smallest finger is under the grip for leverage, and I #### the pistol with my thumb. I have never read about this method and I do not know if it works for people with smaller hands, My hands are size 12. Regards, Richard:D

Well, since whenever I rack the slide it automatically cocks.... I have never really thought about a particular method. Rack slide, shoot, when done... hammer down and holster.

A better question would be: why would you want to rack a 1911 with one hand? The 1911 was designed to carry in Condition 1.

If I had to..... I'd grip the slide over the top with my right hand and push the bottom of the grip into my right hip or leg.

I'm having a hard time seeing your technique in my mind Richard.

Where is your thumb pushing on the slide?

OK re read your post and no I can see how you could #### the hammer like you are describing.

I can do it just like I would with a single action revolver, reach up with the thumb and #### the hammer.

Geez....size 12 hands...those are like meat mallets!

At what point would you need to #### a 1911 without having to rack the slide in the first place, besides say...dry firing?

You go down on one knee and use the sole of your shoe.
But that's only if the other hand doesn't work anymore.

One handed cocking of handguns takes place in scenarios where your other hand is useless. I imagine it also has a use when shooting one handed and you experience a round not firing. Regards, Richard:D

So are you saying you can rack the slide on your 1911 with one hand, without using other body parts???

Now I'm confused by your previous description of the technique you use.

Got any pictures of this technique in action?

Place your palm further forward on the gun and high...so that your thumb can arc backwards away from your hand, backwards instead of upwards.

This way the hammer is more accessible.

Do your damnedest to keep your finger out of the trigger guard.

You can also use the guns inertia in the process by "throwing" the gun forward while your thumb is on the hammer...much like Doc Holiday used to do it with his revolvers.

Doc's draw was a cross draw...he used to press the instep of his thumb web on the hammer and then place his middle finger on the arch between the trigger guard and the grip heft as a pivot...he would then "throw" the gun towards the intended target while allowing the gun's inertia and resistance against his thumb to force the hammer to #### itself. Also the gun's final motion would place itself into his palm directly.

Gun arcs forward...hammer stays put...cocking in reverse..."Throw Cocking"

This is why he was such a fast shot.

This type of throw cocking can be slightly modified by simply placing just the thumb on the hammer...and then gently arcing the gun forward, using the guns momentum to assist the cocking of the hammer.

:D

I have medium/small hands, i dont know what size though, and it works for me. You definately need your little finger under the mag for leverage.

the original 1911 design(no full length guid rod) was so the shooter could push the bottom front of the slide againts a solid object,ie a saddle to chamber a round.

Reading through this reminds me of a movie where an attacker removes the slide off the gun that the other fella is pointing at him, is this even poss.? I know I could not do it:D
Reading through this reminds me of a bad translation between 2 very different languages. The topic went from 'how to #### a 1911 with one hand' to 'hooknig the slide/sight on your belt/saddle to chamber a round' :runaway:
