How does a newbie become a regular?

How long does it take to get rid of your newbie status? Is it by the number of posts? I have noticed people that have joined years ago and are still newbies. And what are the stages, I have noticed "I have no life" as well. Just curious if it's by posts what the milestones are?

You have to apply for access to the EE and your instructor lied........
