How does Superformance work?

I was watching Predator Quest this evening and good 'ol Les was using a 22-250 and 50 gr V-max. This ammo is advertised at 4000 fps.

So I just worked up a load with 50 gr Blitzkings and RL-15-the fasted powder I see listed in the Lee book (3816 fps I believe) and advertised as Sierra's accuracy load at 3700 fps for 36 gr.

How is this new innovative powder achieving 200 fps more without pressure problems? Any thoughts? I have also heard that the Superformance powder is not the same as the powder they place in Superformance ammo?

All depends on how they test it most people report less than advertised velocity

Special powders not available to the public. From what I've read, each cartridge has it's own powder formula. That's why the Superformance powder they have out to the public only works for specific cartridges and not accross the board.

You heard right. Also the 223 ammo is listed at like 3460fps. I put it through my chrony and it was average 3250-3300fps. I can load at that speed with varget.

Varget and a 50 gr bullet will hit 3900 fps in a 22-250. Run some superformance over the screens, i doubt you will see 4000 fps.
