Hi folks,

Strongly considering either a tract toric 2-10x42 or a viper hs 2.5-10x44 for a 375 ruger

My question comes down to optical quality.

Is the Tract Toric similar to the Vortex Viper HS, or is it more comparable to a razor?

I appreciate the input!

I'm not sure I've heard of Tract before. A quick google looks like they're getting good reviews, curious to see if anyone on CGN has played with 'em yet, they seem pretty new to market?

A buddy showed me one a few months back :). It’s super nice glass. I also spoke with the owner at the BC Outdoors show. Potentially gunna get a loaner for a few weeks in the fall to review for an article next year. I’m looking at getting myself 2.5-15. While a little heavier I like the magnification range and the turrets on it. I had to get a long range scope first though so this had to go in the back burner.

They have been around for a few years now and good reviews and use down in the states. If you call or email I believe it’s usually one of the owners who replies. Very knowledgeable on glass. I think I spent an hr plus chatting with him at the show.

I haven’t had it side by side with anything to compare it yet so can’t say which is better. I like the Tract Options but have never owned a vortex optic just used them on other peoples rifles.

I have the TORIC 30mm FFP 4-20X50 MRAD PRS model and one of the .22 scopes and the glass is excellent. My buddy has the Teoka model and the glass is also very good. My models all tract properly and the customer service is excellent. I have Nightforce NXS and besid
e it being more rugged, I would take the Toric and save a good chunk of money.

The tract toric HD would be closer to razor quality. It's a japan made scope. They seem pretty popular in the US and are supposed to be great for the price. I considered the toric HD but I got great deals on a couple Cronus so I never grabbed one. They have been around for a few years

I have bee using a Tract Toric UHD 4.5-30X56 (FFP) since 2021 on my .308 long range rifle. It replaced a Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24X50 (SFP). The better optical clarity of the Toric was evident and was equal to my Nightforce NX8 4-32x50. The tracking is flawless when going back and forth to targets at different distances. I can't compare it to a Gen II or III Vortex Razor as I have never used one, but the Toric is equal to the Gen I Razor I have used in the past. The Toric 2-10X42 is about $900 and the Viper 2.5-10X44 is about $750. Both have fixed parallax, with the Toric being a few ounces heavier. If optical clarity is you main criteria, I would try the Toric.

I have the Razor2 4.5-27 and Trac 5-30 HD, if price are the same , will get the Razor especially on the Turret feel, both track 100%, , Glass is very similar, but Trac is lighter, the price difference does not justify the performance .

I haven't had a Toric, but I do have a 4-12x40 22 Rimfire scope that they make. It is very well made, clear and precise. For the money, it would be hard to find a better scope

Have the 4-20x50PRS Toric, I like it, bought it sight unseen, before Tract had the Cdn website, had to do the import thing, Tract provided all the info and links and how to's needed to do it, very painless process. I was not disappointed in the least when I got it, Used it at the range and on gophers now, I do like the way it works. Glass is great, turrets work lik they are supposed to, reticle is not obtrusive, and very useful on the gopher fields in the wind. I'm not so much a dialer as a holdoff shooter, the reticle certainly works for that.
I wouldn't mind trying a 3-15 with BDC, but not sure I like the reticle in it, their pic is a weird one, so, I haven't choked up the loot yet. If I could look at one, I'd just do it, as long as I decided I liked the reticle, as I know the rest of it will be worth the loot.

I have a cheap discovery optics 1-8x34 first focal plane with a 34mm tube and ED glass on my 375 Ruger. Only $260 at the local shop here in Saskatchewan. Better glass than my vortex PST scopes, and handles the recoil without issues. Has a few hundred rounds of 375 under its belt and hasn't shifted it point of impact any. And they are very stout loads, 350 grain woodleighs pushed by reloder 26 at 2575fps. They do a hell of a job on big game as well.

serious?
thats crazy low price. I was used to seeing the High Density, Extra low Dispersion glass scopes in the 2k range.

Yeah, seriously. It's a pretty nice scope, and at that price it's damn near free. Only current pic I have of it is this one.

Maybe it is a 24mm lens. The outside diameter is 34mm on the objective though. Thick walls I guess. No light problems. But objective size doesn't impede light transmission, but will change the exit pupil size. Which isn't too big of deal since max magnification is only 8x. So exit pupil would still be larger at 8x than a 24x zoom scope with a 60mm objective lens.
