I found this spot that is a goose flyway but just past there is a gravel pit boundary and guys working in machines 200 to 300 metres away. If I am shooting up in the air towards these geese how far will the shot fly before loosing all its energy and fall to the ground?

I have no idea about how far it takes for the shot to fall, but... keep in mind that regular people might be kind of freaked out if you're shooting so nearby to them, regardless of whether it's safe or not.
Probably worth striking up a chat with the guys on the machines before you start. On the upside, they might want to join in for all you know!

A quick google sourced some NRA, Federal, and Winchester numbers that said, basically, between 225-300 yards for various kinds of shot, powder loads, etc. I would not consider that a safe hunting area. Is there anyway to shoot where the machines are and away from them?

If you are shooting facing the guys working in the machines, I would say forget about it.
