How far off the lands??

I think this has been asked before but need to ask anyway.
1) Bullet seating -- How far off the lands is ideal? What is NOT good, ie. dangerous; touching, toooo far away??
2) Does distance affect accuracy? (with the same bullet and also between different bullets)?

Overall lenght not an issue as it is a single shot and thoat length can be determined.
Thanks for any insight.
 
I am now starting at the lands when possible, working up a load and then moving back if neccesary. This way you only have to adjust OAL in one direction to find the sweet spot. But the important thing is to work up.
