Someone please educate me. How hard is it to import/buy any of the following rifles:
Valmet Hunter,
Valmet Hunter Auto
Valmet M78

Thanks :)

Tonight I watched the "Top 10 Greatest Weapons" on Discovery Channel and I want to own #2 (or as close to as we are allowed - the AK-47)... Anyway, I did a little searching and found that the closest thing to it which is NON-Restricted are the Valmet rifles. So that is why I post - Any info appreciated. Thanks.

"No new firearms are being prohibited as part of these changes. In fact, three models of the Valmet Hunter rifle, a semi-automatic rifle that is commonly used for hunting in Northern Canada, have now been re-classified from prohibited to non-restricted."

P.S. If anyone is interested in what the TOP 10 weapons were:

10-Katana (Best Demonstration IMO)
9-Walter PPK
8-Pike
7-harquebuses
6-Boomerang
5-Thompson SMG
4-Barret 50. Cal
3-Longbow
2-AK-47
1-Human Body (Bruce Lee's Martial Arts - Wing Chu (or something like that))

Valmet is the cat's ass of AK's. Questar offers importing services, see the dealer section. It's not hard, just takes awhile.

Thanks !!
I was just writing Questar asking the same question when I thought I'd check to see if anyone replied ;)

Valmet M78

Hi G37
I have had just about every type of AK going and the top gun was the Valmet M78, in 223. I got a letter in January 1999 saying my Velmet was non-restricted. I sold it to Wolverine, and I regretted it after that. I would trade three AK's for a Velmet any day. I think the only AK that came close to that one was an Russian AK47 second pattern it had the smoothest trigger I had ever put my finger on until I got a Velmet 78. If you can get one of those you won't be disappointed in the quality and the reliability. It will cost you a pile of money so you will have to save up your coin.

Thanks for the reply :)
Yeah, I am starting to worry about cost... but... when I get "tunnel vision" I do almost anything to reach the goal ;)

I want to get one in 7.62X51

I'll let you guys know what I find.
~Cheers and Happy New Year!

With the amount of time and effort it would take, you're better off spending that time campaigning for the Conservatives and convincing everyone you know to do the same. They've promised to roll back Canadian gun laws to what they were in 1979, which means AKs would no longer be prohib.

A Valmet in Canada, if you can find one, will be very expensive.

Damn... well, rest assured I am voting Conservative and am trying to convince those who aren't. :)

I am going to take a liberal female who thinks carrying handguns should be made illegal (didn't get that it was already) shooting in January.

I know a couple friends who are voting Conservative, so that is good... it would be really sweet to be able to buy AK's (I'd definitely be one of the first in Canada to order/import a "Arsenal Inc." AK on that glorius day.)

they wouldent and couldent

have NOT been made for many years and very few made it into canada

That`s what I thought , all the ones I`ve seen were in the US and full auto around $9000us . I`ve seen hunter`s for $500us and a couple on here for $2000 and I don`t think they even sold.

Dont remind me of my heartache guys. I missed one like this by 5 freaking minutes.  :( :( :(

no such thing a hunter auto. don't even know where they got that from.

be glad you didn't get it. all that money would be worthless now, and you wouldn't even be able to shoot it........
