... to make a 5.56 T97 into a 7.62.39 T97?
New barrel obviously. New bolt, also obvious.
What else and is it feasible for reasonable?
Why hasn't someone (Norinco) thought of this already?
Do I have to come up with all the great ideas? :)

I've wanted exactly that since the T97 was first available here in Canada...

I may be forced to come up with an alternative to the AR. Thinking about changing the SKS barrel to 223 and using some sort of alu stock and d&t the side for a scope. Any ideas on stocks and the like would be appreciated!

Do it and find out.

It's all been done before. Not sure why exactly you would go through all of this work/effort when you can get one of the 180s for a reasonable price if your goal is to acquire an AR alternative.

Just because it's been done before doesn't mean I can't do it better. When I finish this I will have a superior rifle to the average. All I need is a beater SKS to start with, I have all the other parts needed.

I've been contemplating a similar build.

I'm going to use a socalled "jungle" fiberglass, take off stock I have on hand.

I've also been looking for a beater, but serviceable SKS to do the build on.

For some obscure reason, a battered barreled reciever is now worth its weight in gold???

It's been done commercially as an experiment and was posted here on CGN.

The actions are strong enough for the job, but I will be looking for a threaded receiver, rather than a Chinese press fit.

So far the only actions I've come across have been press fit.

Good luck on your search. I would be very interested in seeing the results.
