I posted this on Facebook a little while ago, but I know some of you aren't on FB so.....................

Some of you have probably heard this story before from me but I'll tell it anyway.

I met LAV in 2005 at SHOT Show in Orlando FL. He is good friends with everyone at Blue Force Gear, Inc. and was bunking up in a house that BFG rented for the Show. I got invited down by BFG and spent my time helping in the booth and crashed at the house with them and LAV.

So one night LAV and I are sitting on the couch watching the History Channel and on comes a documentary about the Modelo Prison rescue in Panama City of CIA operative Kurt Muse.

Now at this point I wasn't quite sure who LAV was and his history. Ashley at BFG told me a few things but not much.

Suddenly LAV comes on TV.

I was kinda freaking out at this point as it was the first time meeting LAV and here he is sitting beside me while I'm watching him being interviewed on TV as well. All the time he's giving me a play by play as to what happened and meanwhile I'm thinking, how does he know so much.

A little more time goes by and it's about half way through when LAV get up and says....

"Alright, I'm racking out".....

......"Let me know how it ends"

And off to bed he goes.

what are the chances of sitting down with someone and seeing them on tv i bet lav knows a lot of classified info

I had the pleasure of meeting LAV in person st SHOT, one of the most "down to earth" and "approachable" folks I've met.
He's a "legend" nuff said!!

It's always funny when that happens hey its you on tv I didn't know about that or wait you never told me that before they just chuckle and go yah in my younger days..

I like this Korean war vet I actually got to drink with him before as well as all his buddys because he knew my Grandfather that was also in that war.

That is a great story, always love to hear it. I,ve met LAV twice via events that OSTS has hosted, just loved listening to what he has to say about other people in the biz, and he Is a funny guy!

Forgive my ignorance but what makes this Larry Vickers guy so special. I have not heard of him until recently & now in this thread. I did a quick google search on the guy & he seems to be like any other tactical training teacher. Cool guy I'm sure but why is he such a celebrity?

Without Larry Vickers, there won't be HK416 and HK45. Besides, he is real gunnut! It is very cool to talk to him, not just because of his experience and credential - but he talks like a real shooting and gun enthusiasts! Not just some guy who is super doper ex-special force dude who only cares about bullets coming out from the muzzle end, but he likes guns and enjoys the history behind guns.

Hasn't caught that before. What a lovely - yet somewhat surreal - way to meet a person. Not to mention the inside-irony of the 'let me know how it ends'. If said with a wink it would be a perfect movie moment.

He also hosts a show called Tac-TV which is pretty cool. Not sure where to find it on TV but you cab subscribe right through their website. Some pretty cool and unique content.

In my books he's a real cool cat for a number of reasons. Down to earth, a real gun lover, served as a SF ops for many years and so on.

I surely don't believe he would sees himself as a celebrity, as you put it.

AH, he's just a TV show host. Thats all ;) No one special ;) Never been there but knows all about it lol! Some Military channel guy... :)

I have had opportunity to meet a few interesting folks over the years through this and some of my other addictions. LAV would be high on my "want to" list.

BTW Darren, i owe ya a hunt ;0
