How in the heck do you identify Schmidt-Ruben variants...

Hi all,

Well, what in the actual @#$%! I just picked up a Schmidt-Ruben in an estate sale, and I have absolutely no idea where to start. It seems like every time I am getting a lead on something, I see a similar picture posted somewhere else making claims contrary to what I've read elsewhere. At this point I'd be willing to pay someone a couple bucks to look at some pictures and piece this puzzle together for me.

Are there any collectors out there that know a thing or two about these rifles?

Go to the website I link below. Type in the serial number where it says serial number, making sure 'all' is selected. This will give you all the Swiss arms with that serial number. From there click on each one until you have what looks like your rifle in your hand.

The other option which is pretty effective is just posting a few photos on here. To sum it up easily there is about 3 main Schmidt Rubin designs your likely to encounter. A 1889 Infantry rifle, has bolt lugs at the far rear of the bolt and has a big ramp rear sight. A 1911 or 96/11 infantry rifle, which will have a pistol grip and a Mauser style ramp sight. A K11 or 00/11 or 05/11 which will be a carbine with a wood handguard which goes around the rear sight. The other variants are pretty rare and the odds of you having one is pretty low. The other common rifle which isn't a Schmidt Rubin is a K31 with the shorter bolt and more modernized design.
