There are no doubt coyotes in the area. Most of the land around the base is private property, you will need permission to hunt there. There are county forest tracts, where hunting may or may not be allowed.
Probably your best bet is to team up with someone in the area.

I am just north of Barrie ( by 2 minutes ) in Midhurst. Im down in Oakville for school though. There are plenty of yotes in the area, and just about every hunter out there would be happy if you thinned em. MOST ( not all ) county tracts that can be hunted have signs with a stick figure with a gun, and a green box around the hunter. Those you cannot hunt in will have a red circle with a slash through it, around the hunter. The MNR can also tell you about specific tracts. I don't know any around the borden area, but I know there are plenty of tracts in the Midhurst/Horseshoe area that can be hunted.

My email is osborne.nolan@gmail.com if you want specifics.
Also don't be afraid to ask farmers around HWY 26, there are lots of open areas/coyotes there too.

Join the rod and gun club and I'll run into you there hopefully. I'd let my membership lapse, but I'll rejoin come the spring membership renewal. Nice to have you on board, by the way. Also check with the members on this site and maybe the local MNR, as a "for instance", up around Haliburton/Minden, you're not allowed to shoot wolves (and I think they include 'yotes in that blanket statement) because the MNR feels that they haven't established viable populations as yet. Meanwhile, the locals are flaming mad 'cause they're losing livestock and pets to the damned things, not to mention that you'd best keep an eye on your youngun's if they're playing in some of the rural areas. God must love stupid people, he made so many of them.

Haliburton/Minden - first week of deer season they killed two bucks, a fawn and a doe within a mile of my house. No snow on the ground. Was sitting on my stump, and they were creating quite a ruckus chasing a doe into the river.

hey thanks, what calibers do you guys use? and since im a non resident but i vote in ont what licence do i need?

This area I believe you can not go higher then a 270 cal

You will need a Non Res Small game to hunt them , I think it is $87.00 There is a shooting supply store on the other side of Base that has licences. Every hunter in the Military knows the Wolf's Den ;)

There are several tracts of Simcoe County Forest that surround the base. You need to be a member of OFHA to hunt there:
http://www.ofah.org/SimcoeCounty/intro.cfm

I have been stalking Ninja Rabbits in the Baxter Plot all winter. There are some coyote tracks along the southern boundary, just after the ridge.

Other wildlife tracks abound.

The plot between Baxter and Utopia (on the dead end road on the bottom eastern side of Borden)is being deforested.

Most of the County Forest is Mature Pine Managed Forest (neat rows). Very little brush. The few brush piles are under snow.

Snowmobilers tend to zip around the Baxter Plot and the one near Tioga as well.

Bring snowshoes.

There's also two nice pieces of County Forest at the north western corner of the base, near Glencairn. One is actually Crown. It's a Pine Tree Seed Farm. I have no idea if it's legal to hunt there, but I've seen bow hunters enter and exit. The other is a nice plot that backs onto Borden.

There's also a very substantial plot just north of the base, on the north side of the town-line. Never been there. The other very substantial plot is west of Tioga, on the Dufferin County border, but I cannot find the access-point. That is, to say, it's on a road according to my maps, but I haven't found it.
