How long does a new gun transfer take?

With a long gun you can usually take it home the same day. With restricted it takes about 3 to 4 business days. Before you can take the restricted firearm out to the range you need the registration certificate from CFC - usually about 2 weeks. This assumes you already have your ATT. I'm not sure if you're allowed to take the long gun out before you receive the certificate.

this is just new brunswick you buy a gun say a rifle or shottie same day and as long as you have that paper you go home with it then you wait for the paper work and a shootin you will go. as for restrict as they said 3 working days or more just goes by how busy they are

transfer from the federal to provincial isnt really the issue, its the provinces that take the most times...bantario and quebekistan are probably the worse...no insult intended on ont. and qc. residents, just think that the prov. governments could do better

in quebec, you heard horror stories of 4 to 6 months! but it seems that the times have shorten a bit

i need some clarification for transfers, when i get my pistols and if i don't have the certificate in hand,

but i have the letter stating that the transfer has been processed and certificate is on the way

could i go to the range? or do i have to wait 2+ weeks for the certificate because i have not even gotten my first pistols certificate yet and its been 2 weeks since i brought it home 3 weeks since i paid for it and the shop started the transfer

Say i buy a gun from the shop today, how long does the transfer take? when would i be able to bring the gun home?

Kinda depends:

Non-restricted - you should be able to walk out the shop with it. transfer should be instant.

Restricted - between 2~4 days, longer if it is your first ever restricted.

In BC - up to 3 days. If you are very new, no guns registered to you, it may take longer.

Well.. Lets see 1 was 1 day... 1 was same day... 1 was 2 days... another was same day... it really depends if you have all your paper work in order ECT its usally same day... Most of the time its 1-2 days depends on when the transfer is started as well since they are closed weekends it can back up some weeks holidays make things slower as well but start a transfer Monday its usually same day tues day 1 day ect..

The 1 transfer that took 2 days on me I called the CFO 39 times ... is it done yet no ok thanks.. Its me again they even knew me by my voice.... I didn't want to wait and I had to travel to get it so having it come later was a huge incognizance so I just called and called and called... Had nothing else but to pick up the gun for that day so that’s what I did checked up every few minutes

For my first restricted transfer I was already a member at a range and had the long term att so paper work went really fast..

The paper you get is the buyers copy. That is the cert untill your offical cert arrives. I have actually gotten only the buyer copy for some of my firearms and that was all they issused in the mail other times they send me the paper cert it really depends on how many firearms you go through it always seems to be slightly diffrent for me at least. Some firearms they never sent the cert or it got lost on there end I've had to call to get some. As long as you have something with the serial number its basicly good to go it's all offical paper work...

If you ever had to call the CFO in Quebec or ontario it's the worst... in Ontraio they just have to many but in Quebec It took 5 people to do 1 transfer and man were they rude you need an att sir before we tranfer it blah blah blah.. I told them I can ship from my door I don't even need to leave my house if I don't want too.. I think they just don't like english people..

I recieved a new restricted in the mail last week. When I was picking up my statt at the cfo office, I was told specifically that I could not transport to the range until my registration certificate arrived in the mail. That was on a Monday, the transfer had been done the previous Thursday (by a shop). The registration arrived on Friday.

yeah, like i said, i have been waiting 3 weeks since the transfer was started, and 2 since i brought it home with the buyers copy...

im starting to think they lost it.

There seems to be some conflicting ideas on how to get your restricted firearm delivered to your doorstep.
From what I understand,
step 1) get your RPAL approved and receive it in the mail.
step 2) join Gun Range
step 3) purchase Restricted firearm
step 4) Place of sale of Restricted firearm with arrange for STATT
step 5) Restricted firearm will be shipped to place of residence
step 6) apply for LTATT when gun purchased (have heard on this forum that CFO won't give a LTATT before you purchase a Restricted firearm)

thanks to all who would offer explanation through experience of their own.

I had a complete transfer including atts in 18 minutes last week. I love having a fax machine at home! The mb CFO is wicked fast and friendly.
