How long should one expect to wait to get the reference number to complete the transfer of their first restricted.
This is a private sale if that makes any difference.

In ontario.... I've been waiting a week Friday, for a ontario to ontario transfer. They say 2-6 weeks and 98% are completed witching a month.

Thanks. That's ridiculous. A month or more to transfer ownership of something I/we have already proven to be responsible enough to own, twice. Then I assume I'm going to have to wait another month for my att.

Think in terms of the time of year. Most civil servants haven't been working since noon on X-Mas Eve. Your ATT comes through your club. If you're not a club member and have done the CPFO mandated club level safety course, you won't get an ATT. The transfer will be held up too.
"...witching a month..." That'd be October. snicker.

I'm a member in good standing at 2 clubs so no problem there. I have already contacted the person incharge of ATTs at one of the clubs, so that shouldn't be an issue.
That's what I meant by proving we are responsible enough TWICE. once for the RPAL course and once for the club level ATT safety course.

Hi. The only ATT you'll need to worry about, then, is the STATT to get the thing home. The club sponsored ATT is the LTATT and isn't good for getting the thing home. As stupid as it is.
The club course is part of making getting into the shooting sports as difficult as possible. The club sponsoring the ATT isn't anything new though. Neither is a club level safety course. Paying for that is though.
Ain't nothing as stupid as government. Worse when it's government allowing civil servants to make law by regulation. The Sociailst F**ks got that from the U.S. Their ATF has been doing it for years.

I'm having it delivered to my house, so the post man without any licensing can bring it to me i guess.
It's a private sale like I said, so he's going to have it shipped to my address.
Thanks for the info, sincerely, but I'm not ignorant to our laws, I have proven that twice remember lol.
I was just curious about the general wait time to get the confirmation number so I can call and finish the transfer.
Again thank you for the info though, I'd rather have too much than too little.
and I agree there is nothing worse than government allowing civil servants to make law by regulation

You mention calling to complete the transfer.
Have you spoken to the CFP at all with respect to this transfer?

When whom ever initiated the transfer, they got the reference # at the time they called. The initiator should have given it to you so you can complete the transfer, then it's a 2-6 week wait.

Oh and ask to be emailed all correspondence!

Hmm... The seller initiated the transfer, said the process has been started and once he got the confirmation number he'll give it to me. Should he have gotten it right away?

It was from a member on this sight through the EE.

I have no reason not to trust him.

I bought a hand gun from the EE here too, just going by my expirence... He had the reference # right away.

I'll probably be waiting longer then you though, I don't have a membership to a range yet.... Should be fore the end of the month though!

Good luck! Hope the wait is short!

Just going through the same process. Ontario does sometimes take longer. Just got my transfer paper today. (2 weeks after initial start of transfer) (holiday time though)Firearm I bought though on ee is in Alberta. So could be another 5 business days for seller to get his transfer paper ok. Then time for it to be mailed to me. All said and done likely 4 weeks. Only is it this ridiculous in Ontario. All other free provinces complete within a week. (except Québec)

So I looked on the RCMP website trying to find out how to check the status of the transfer but i'm useless at navigating confusing websites.
is this something i can even do online?

This is something they are in the process to set up, but not completed. Just sit back and wait and the papers will show unless you requested email version. It is in the hands of the Ontario CFO now. So all will be processed in a safe and timely manor! (insert sarcastic voice)

I did not request an email version, maybe i should. could save a few day i assume right? I may seem impatient but it took me 3 months to book my RPAL, and another 11months to get into Range Burlington. I have proven myself twice, i'm sick of waiting. But clearly there is nothing i can do now but wait.

Yep call with your reference #, request to be emailed.... It would be good for the guy mailing it to you to do the same... If he's willing!

Yeah I felt the pain and impatience when I did mine couple years ago. Like being told Xmas is in 2 weeks as a kid, but Xmas gets pushed back another 2 weeks every 2 weeks! Lol! Your already a range member and did your supervised shoots, just this last hurdle then you can shop till you drop. A lot of people can't find a range with a membership vacancy. So your one up on a lot of people. What's your first restricted going to be?
