So I just got a Lyman 1200, and have since cleaned all my brass. I have some corn cob husk media(by the looks of it) and some lyman cleaner. I only put the brass I had through for about 1/2 hour per caliber, and it is pretty clean. Just wondering how long it needs to be in there to get that polished shine.

I usually tumble mine in walnut with a capfull of Nu-Finish car polish for about 3-4 hours depending on how dirty the brass is. Brass comes out really shiney.

I just started tumbling and thought that an hour was long enough... then I read that some folks tumble all night... so.. I took my 3 hour tumbled brass and dumped it back into the corn cob... a teaspoon of polish and let it go all night...

the next morning i couldnt believe how shiny the brass was..now I tumble all night, about 10 hours... not because the brass works any better at that grade of shine... it just looks like gold :)

2 hours, never more

Nu Finish is excellent for polishing brass. Also, drop in a shredded USED clothes dryer sheet. It will come out black. Absolutely miraculous. In fact, you might be able to use just the shredded dryer sheet instead of the Nu Finish.

get a light timer and only use the off part and set it for so many hours while you are out at work etc. its low tech but works just fine for me (because i forget its on). i also 4-5 hours with nufinish.

I live in an apatment!!!!!!! This would not go over well with the Girlfriend!!!! LOL

I just go until they are clean. I use corncob media and may throw in a little Brasso or car polish. Often 4-8 hours depending on how dirty to start with.

Turn it on when I go to work in the morning. Turn it off when I come home for lunch. Only use Nu Finish when the brass is really dirty. Have to try that dryer sheet trick. Thanks.

My corncob media is going on 10,000 rounds of .223 thanks to used dryer sheets. I tumble for 2-4 hours prior to sizing to save my dies and about 4 hours prior to priming to remove lube and polish further.
