How loud is the .17hmr?

I am considering buying the h&r sportster in 17hmr and i would like to know How much louder is the HMR compared to a 22lr in similar guns when shot in the same conditions? same, twice as loud, way louder?

It is louder than 22lr but I do not find it as loud as 22 mag. It's just loud enough that outside you should be wearing hearing protection but you would get by without.

It's nowhere near as loud as something like 223 or bigger.

I would say twice as loud is a good guess. Not very loud but more of a crack IMHO. Still no where near a center fire.

I use the 17hmr alot and would rank it at least twice as loud in a rifle, more in a handgun, which is what I use more often than the rifle.

I don't notice the noise all that much when shooting my Marlin 917V, but my Dad, Step mom, and buddy all say it is quite a bit louder then the 2 by 2's.......I would say x2 as loud or more. It seems to startle them often when we are in the gopher patch.

My work buddy has that rifle and just recently got a .22 mag barrel for it to go with the .17. 2 in 1 gun, I like it, and I agree probably twice as loud.
