I was reading a article online that was a couple of years old, saying that the Police force of Kitchener Waterloo just purchased several hundred Glock G22, 40 S&W handguns for the entire police force, to replace the Beretta 92fs. I was wondering what does the RCMP, OPP, Etc, Etc, use ? Do they just go by department and choose whatever they like ? Or do they have no choice and must all use a Glock ? I was pretty sure that the last time I went through the USA, there was some border officers with Sigs.

Just curious, but does anyone know of a list online with what all of the different police forces of Canada use as there side arm ?

VPD uses .40cal Sig 226's, the Police Act in BC requires police forces to use .40cal, except for the RCMP who still use the 9mm SW 5946 and a single stack SW 5906 I think. CO's use G22's as do a number of smaller police forces. I think one went with HK's. f I recall in Quebec they use or used to use Sig 2340's.

Most of the municipal police forces in Ontario use Glock 22 .40 S&W. Toronto, York Region, and Durham use Glock 22. Also Ottawa i think uses the Glock 22. Peel Regional police use S&W M&P40. The Ontario Provincial Police use the Sig P229 .40. Surprisingly the Ministry of Natural Resources officers are issued H&K USP.40 cal.

No more love for the 9mm ? Sounds like the 40 S&W is the most popular handgun round in Canada now then with all of the Officers of the Law using them. I wonder if any "special forces" use a .45 acp, 1911 like some special forces in the USA do.

I saw a document a while back that showed what each PD was using as their side arm.

I'm sure it is still floating out in the 'net somewhere....

All peace officers that work for the province of Alberta use the Glock 22 or one of it's compact variants. RCMP uses the S&W 5906 and whatever compact prodgeny it has. All municiple police I've seen have been carrying Glocks as well but apparently Lethbridge uses a Sig. The tribal police force around here carries both the S&W 5906 and the newer M&P.

I have heard from an O.P.P. officer that their tactical units are carrying .45 Sigs, but he could have been wrong. It seems that the S&W M&P 40 is taking the police universe by storm, I wonder if Glock is worried?

There are recent internal murmurings that RCMP ERT operators are going to use a Sig P226 DAO variant in 9mm. Apparently because it's a lot more accessory friendly than the 5946 TSW currently in use.

I doubt it. They just switched from the 226 to the 5946 not to long ago. I can't see them spending all the money to switch back to what they already had.

But I guess stranger things have happened.

I guess I was wrong. All the ERT guys I have worked with lately just got the S&W.

Same here, still the 5946 TSW. Black Railed variant with the magazine disconnect removed. I heard the switch got held up because the decision wasn't made without having open bids and are getting a pee pee slap over it.

I gotta say as much as I like Sig Sauer, id rather have that chunk of a S&W on my hip still

The switch to the 5946 was years ago. There were a few guys that were holding onto their Sigs as long as they could. But no one has been trained on the Sig in a lot of years. That's changing now.

The hold up was partially because of Public Works, and more testing needed.

I was in the armorers shop when they were doing a bunch of shooting with the Sigs this past summer.
