Hey Guys,

As the title says, How many grains are in a pound of powder?

1 pound is approx 6999.9999 grains according to google!( this adds up, because I get 280 rounds of .223 with 25 grains of benchmark @ 25 grains per round. )

That's sooooo grossly inaccurate. There's exactly 7000grains to a pound. Give or take one kernel or three.

Maybe thats just the $90 a pound containers that have been selling on the EE.

it's 7000- i get 100 rounds out of a can of 7828 and it throws 70 grains a pop

And just by that, I'm going to say you're shooting 300 win mag with 180 grain bullets I use 68.5 grains and get around 102, but that's with a little spill too. Very close to your results.

don't insult me- i have no use for the puny 300 win mag/180- that's a 338 win mag with 275 semi-spitzers- the 300 is just a 308 on speed, which is my SADDLE gun- this is for REALLY BIG BEARS

Just make sure your not purchasing Clays, I think that's the stuff that only comes in 14oz "lbs". That would mean you have 6125 in your "lbs" of powder.

PF i have it on good authority that the first 3500 grains are good and the rest of the pound is no good. I will gladly take the other 3500 off your hands and dispose of it about 4 grains at a time

I know I will get flamed for this, but here goes: I get 1200 loads @ 5grs each of 700X with a 93 grain cast bullet in 30-30. Great little load for plinking and indoor range. I will have to try some Trail Boss.

Obviously not paying attention during the CFSC program or didnt read the book. Pretty basic question. Make sure u read the loading manuals a few times before u start reloading, not just for your safety but moreso for the folks beside you..
