How many layers of channel varnish?

I'm sealing my barrel channel after sanding for free floating the barrel.

I'm using spar varnish cut 50/50 with paint thinner.

I have four layers on now.

Is that enough?

Yes, two would be OK

Normally the first coat is thinned to allow it to soak in, after that apply unthinned to build.
I expect 4 coats of thinned varnish will be great.

Thanks. I'm all set up for one more go so I'll end up with five on there.

I pulled the barreled action out of my other rifle that I had treated the channel with tung oil some time ago and will give that a top layer of thinned varnish too seeing as I'll have the varnish and brush out.
