How many of you cut down SKS stripper clips?

I saw a video where a guy took 4 rounds off a stripper clip, crimped the 5th round cut area in a vice so that it made a one way, 5 round stripper clip.

Has anyone done this here? Any make the finger tap 2 round long to get a better handle of it?

Does anyone just use a 10 round stripper clip and load 5 into the 5 round mag and put the second 5 aside for a reload? Or do you just use a full size stripper clip with 5 rounds and use it that way?

I just tweaked the frankenpin in my magazine to allow just the 5 rounds to be stripped off with a hair to spare. This way you don't have the 6th round falling off. So 5 go in and 5 stay on the clip. Then I easily load the next 5. Other wise you have to make sure you know which way the modified clip works. The biggest hangup I feel people have is the ability to consistently load just the 5 rounds into the magazine without the 6th round falling off. I would post a pic but photobucket seems to be unavailable currently. But basically I drilled a hole into the top of the rather large block welded into the base of the magazine, tapped it and placed in a hex set screw. Turned screw until just 5 rds are inserted easily.

Somewhat on topic question- my SKS just showed up the other night, but with 0 stripper clips with the gun or the ammo. Where's the best place to get some?

That's the main problem i8 have with 10 round clips, the 6th round always pops out and is just laying on top of the mag and I have to dig it out.

Personally I just load 5 onto the 10 round clips, I've always meant to try shortening some down to only 5 rounds, but it's pretty low on the "things I need to get done" list.

No trimming for me, one of my Sks rifles has a XCR mag adapter and without the Wartak rail on it I can slam all 10 off the clip into the XCR pistol magazine.

Its just so easy to cut the 10 rd clips in half, crimp them a little at the cut and you have two 5 rd clips. Work perfectly, been using them for years like that.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, nice to see a number of options.

redryder, the video mentioned that two but the fellow likes having the tab for a quicker way to know which end is up. A poster did mention just painting part of the half cut ones instead of his tape. I'll wait until I get a surplus of clips as our local store charges $1.60 each but on the EE people often have 50-100 for less than .50 cents. I think anything more than $1 each is too much when you can get a clip loaded with 10 for $4.

This is what I did too.

Load it with 10, mark the middle and a quick zip with a rotary tool, crimp with a punch and hammer... Работает как шарм!

I just put a very small cable tie in the middle. It holds ten rounds. Load, shoot, flip, load. Repeat with next clip.
