How many rifle mags for 3 gun?

How many magazines do you end up using in a three gun match? I'm talking 5 round pinned mags here.

I'm planning on setting up my 580 series Mini 14 as a general plinker/three gun rifle but the cost of 20/30 round mags is giving me white hair. I was actually thinking about putting a long handle or a base on the plain 5 rounders since they're way cheaper but haven't thought that through all the way yet.

Any thoughts or recomendations?
 
Hey Doug,

I set up a bunch of 5-rounders by bolting a ground down Ranger baseplate. Actually worked pretty good. You're going to need a bunch of them as the round count on rifle stages can get upwards of 30.

Unfortunately no I can't make it to Terrace for the June shoot although I'd really like to!

An AR would be great, but I'd rather have a rifle that I can use outside the range too :(

Maybe I'll wait a while to see if Marstar ends up getting a cheaper alternative to the $90-$100 magazines of dubious manufacture that's out there right now.
 
I considerd an AR 180B, but they're so damn ugly *LOL* I should have just gotten over it and bought one instead of the mini 14, but I'm a firm believer in the "if your eyes don't dialate when you look at it, then you won't shoot it" mantra :)
