how many rounds is a VZ 58/858 good for?

Good question.

Note that the VZ58 has a chrome lined barrel (longer life), while the 858 does not. But, the 58 barrels are 'used', and the 858 barrels are new.

Either way... I'm guessing many 10's of thousands of rounds, given our mag laws and semi-auto fire. 50K+ would be my guess.

This one is infinite....

I have just been reading a few sources (really can you trust wikipedia) that say they don't last as long as as an ak that got my head rattling,......mind you the same source said it wouldn't be as good in the field because of the parts ........which leads me to belive the guys who wrote these blurbs got thier info from the same source and don't know what they are talking about ( small parts .......i never heard anything so dumb ......) i was curious what anyone had to say on this matter?

You will never wear out the barrel before you wear out your trigger finger.

If you do wear it out don't worrry I'll buy the reciever quick.

Translated this from the Czech military website.

Before the Sa vz.58 was adopted by the CSLA several prototypes were
tested in the USSR . The results of these tests were recorded in a report named (Otcet No 262). The tests were mainly focused on fire under harsh conditions. The rifles were dry fired, meaning all the lubricants were removed. After exposure to dust, water, sand and extreme high and low temperatures the results proved the firearm to be extremely reliable. 4.5% of all rounds fired were faulty due to mainly feeding followed by misfire and ejection. Under regular conditions the fault rate was 0.13% where the minimal requirements by the (MNO) Ministry of Defence was 0.3% During these tests the durability of several parts was inadequate mainly due to the quality of the materials used.
After the final modifications the same tests were conducted on two more models with manufacture # 2182 and 2183. The test on 2182 showed an interesting result. After 25 333 rounds the fault rate was 0.135% . The diameter of the barrel increased by only 0.01mm and after 25 231 rounds fired the bolt carrier cracked. At 20 573 the extractor cracked and after 30 000 rounds fired the test concluded. The striker withstood the entire test.

This is the kind of info that should be stickied, Thanks Palinak

Should have a general info and maintenance section etc,.for these rifles like the SKS section

barrel wear on full auto vs. our 5 round slow fire specials? probably last you a very long time..
