How many rounds of steel cased/copper washed corrosive till you guys see wear & tear?

I had a mosin with 800 round with visible wear to barrel and extensive wear to bolt and my sks is getting over 2000 + rounds and barrel looks great, My bolt carrier shows significant wear tho.

Any semi-auto will look well used around the 1000 round mark...that is until it goes up for sale on the EE which magically makes wear disappear. Less than 100 rounds and LNIB!

I'm not sure why steel cased / copper washed / corrosive would show any more wear than any other ammo.

You're cleaning the guns after shooting corrosive, right?

are you talking about bi-metal jacketed ammo? ive heard there harder on barrels then the pure copper jacket ammo but never experienced any problems.

only 2000 ?
I saw wear on my stock that made it useless for hitting my targets...but..7000 rounds plus;)
New stock and good to rock and roll :p

With its chrome bore and much lower velocity cartridge, an SKS barrel should last quite a bit longer than a Mosin barrel.

I'm 1000 rounds in on my sks. So far I've had to shim the stock, but no other major signs of wear. Bolt carrier is wearing but that's to be expected, and it's not bad yet.

Its pretty much steel o steel... in low light hou can see sparks coming out the barrel.

With a non chrome lined barrel a cases of coper wash burned out the barrel... last 5 inches were smooth.
with a chrome lined barrel... Never had issues.

Op, are you saying 800rnds visibly wore the barrel and bolt on your mosin? A very high percentage of ammo made during ww2 was steel jacket and nobody carried a spare barrel in their kit.

Offtopic but, did snipers use SP rounds? Or were they sniping the enemy with fmjs?

The barrel is much harder steel than the round

It may ware it faster... But one case I doubt.

however many russians only packed ten rounds.....

An ammo pouch holds 30 so that is somewhat unlikely. Given the nature of combat on the eastern front I would be surprised if most of the recent batch of refurbs currently available didn't have at least two thousand rnds through them per year of combat. I have put 500 or so through one of my snipers and the barrel still looks as I received it.

The German army at Stalingrad used 1 billion rounds of small arms cartridges in the month of September alone during that battle. I wonder if they saw any wear?

Basicly no more wear then any other gun you own if you treat it proper, I give my sks's and Mosins the same cleaning as a 5000$ custom. In my experience (limited) no matter the ammo you run, lots of shots fired will make minor primer marks, I don't care how well you clean it. Unless other guys r running a magic oil the only thing to prevent wear is not to use it and store it properly. But shooting corrosive and not cheating for a week is very bad. But really just spray down with ammonia windex when ever your done shooting and don't even think about ammo quality. Slow Russian cartridges won't wear barrels but careless owners can.
