How Much do Cheap Holsters Run?

The reason I ask is that when I took my club level safety course, the gentleman who gave the course was quite emphatic that I should get one, so that I could keep my pistol with me when I went to check my targets. (As opposed to doing something dumb like leave it on the bench when checking targets and having it stolen).

So, the pistol is a CZ75. I know nothing about holsters. Zilch. Zippo. Any recommendations on what I should look for? Cheap is good because it will only be used in this limited function; ie. keeping the gun on my person while checking targets.

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend a Bladetech DOH holster, about $80. Cheaper than that would be a fobus.

Cheap holsters cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars, since you'll continually be upgrading to the next level of cheapness as you recognize the deficiencies in your current rig.

Do yourself a favour and purchase a high quality fitted holster the first time around, it will last as long as you own your pistol and the best models just get better with age.

I can get leather holster localy which are ment for LEO.
I bought a CZ75 holster, cut the retaining strap and use it for IPSC
Costed me 35$ IIRC

Bourdon didn't have the model with a detachable strap when you bought yours?

Winz nop, CZ75 holster from him are with a strap.

I do like their leather dual mag pouch at 20$, it's for a BHP but fit the same once you cut the straps.

:)

I got the Blackhawk Sepa for my Sig226, but a cheap Nylon generic is good when you have a bunch of different guns, you can also use it as a spare holster to keep in your gear bag for when you bring friends.

This is a Bianch Model 12 Holster and it makes a fine range/hunting/camping holster. I could advise you to look at plastic holsters (Fobus etc.) but they are not my cup of tea. Regards, Richard:D

Fobus and Bianchi holsters are nice, but lets keep in mind that all this will be used for is nothing more than a convenient belt mounted bag to carry the gun to the target and back.

I've a fobus paddle for my XD 9 and one for my 1911. Very good retention, and the one for the 9 has seen a lot of use. They will accelerate wear on your finish, but most holsters will somewhat. They do seem to drag a bit more then say a bladetech though. The serpas seem a very nice unit and very little holster drag=little wear.

Bladetechs are adjustable, and I liked them much more than the old Fobus I had. The new Fobus appear to be adjustable as well!

Some of us are lucky enough to qualify for ATC's. ;)

I carry my GLOCK 17 in the field so finding practical holsters is important to some of us.

I can't believe 18 other gunnutz missed this point!

There is no Ontario club level safety course that does holster certification at the same time. There is no holster component in the CSSA Club Level Safety Instructors Certification course.

I don't know of any club in Ontario that will allow you to walk down range wearing a holstered gun unless your actually competiting in some type of match event and you are holster certified for that disapline.

The only exception would be if your practicing alone on the fireing line and you are holster certified already for IPSC,PPC, IDPA ect and the club allows such activity by it's members that are shooting alone on the firing line. And if you did holster a gun and walk down range with it while I was shooting a non-match night, I would close down the range and send you home, then contact the club executive ASAP about your unsafe handling of firearms.

If I was still on the club executive, I would revoke your membership on the spot with no chance of appeal and return your ATT to the CFO the next day!

That guns stays on the bench, mag out, action open and unloaded when we are changing targets on club shoot nights! Your CSSA Club Level Instructor should loose his certification for even teaching his students this method.

C'mon folks. Lets get a discussion going on this. If "Happiness" is right (and he sounds right to me) then my club executive - the guy who gave me my club level safety course - is dead wrong. This is pretty flippin' fundamental.

Mag out, action open, pistol left at the bench makes a certain amount of sense to me.

My club instructor, in essence, said mag out, action open and pistol in holster when walking down range to check my targets.

Who is right? Or does this fundamental safety practice vary from range to range? Or even province to province?

Remember, this is about safety and security when walking down range to check your targets.

I don't know and I would appreciate some other viewpoints.
