Multiple species hunts change my shell count. Then I go with whatever the rifle holds plus a dozen in a belt pouch. One of my .375s takes 6 down, I've yet to shoot it dry.

Load rifle, then bring a half-box strip of 10 in my pack or pockets if I haven't got a pack on.
Bow-3 broadheads and 3 "stump thumpers".
Shotgun-load shotgun, dump approximately a handfull in a pocket.

I have a box of 20 for the trip, but usually carry five in one of those plastic shell holders from Federal in my day pack and three in the rifle and two in the plastic shell holder in my pocket.
