how much oil is too much/too little?

Hey guys,

I have a brand new Savage 10 FCP-K

I understand the proper way (i think) to clean and oil the barrel from reading the owners manual. But how much oil should you use on the bolt and elsewhere (where else?)?

one of my shots after i cleaned the barrel smoked a fair bit, is that leftover (read: too much) oil?

the bolt only needs a thin layer of oil to stay lubricated and rust free, on the back side of the lugs (closest to the bolt handle) use a heavy duty moly grease to prevent gailing.

you shoudnt shoot your rifle with oil in the bore, you can leave oil in the bore for storage reasons, but run a dry patch or two threw befor shooting

I just use a clean oily rag to get a thin layer on my guns and every now and then i put a good thick coating on it.

Just wipe everywhere that you can reach with the oily rag.
