How much powder for 230 grain ball in a Pendersoli 1805 harpers ferry pistol

I would start with 30 grains of 2F black powder. I have a 54 caliber flintlock pistol that is Japanese made and that is my usual load although I have used the same load but in 3F which seems to perform better but with more authority.

Watched a guy do something stupid one time, he said well I put 69grs in my .69 musket so Why not load 69grs in my.69 pistol? Well he broke his wrist lol with pistols I use half the grs per caliber so a .69around 35-40 max, a .54 around 30grs is perfect. Just never rifle load it you'll seriously regret it.

This is why I posted...seems most data I come across is for rifle.
This is all new to me.
Thank you.

On top of that I found out that the material and fit of the patch plays a roll in the accuracy of patch round balls in pistols and rifles. So some experimenting with patches is likely in order as well.

I don't have a lot of pistol experience to go by so far. Going to fix that over the coming year. But I know that I've got one rifle that likes a small charge and is hellishly accurate withit. Another needs a big charge and it too is hellishly accurate. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it so it's wise to start at 20 and work up to 35 to 40. And try a few different fitting patches along the way.

The patches that seem to work the best for my .45 and .50 cal guns seems to be firm but not overly heavy to ram home. Like I need firm but not heavy short jabs on the ram rod of about 15 to 20 lbs of pressure to seat the ball on the charge.

Another factor not often discussed in these threads on loads is the patch lube. The barrel quickly fouls during the first two or three shots. We need a patch lube that self cleans well enough that the fouling drag that occurs after the first couple of shots does not increase from shot to shot. Or we need to swab between shots to maintain a consistent barrel. So some consideration needs to be put on your choice of patch lube and monitor how well it performs in this self cleaning role.

Hey, if it were easy then EVERYONE would be doing it... :d
