How much thought do you put into a rifle's bore

I rebarrelled a 220 Swift with the same situation....no rifling for 4-5" from the chamber.
Interesting part was, this rifle would still hold 1.25 moa without any problem.
But, originally it was a ½ moa rifle, so I knew she was going away when groups started to open.
Now, I simply put my borescope down the barrel and take a look. Many times, minor pits and small
blemishes have little effect on accuracy unless they are right at the muzzle.
Dave.

My findings as well. My ruger 77 in 22-250 that I used for running deer shoots in the late 70's was a 1/2 MOA rifle @ 100 yds. After 500 rounds of hot loads of 4895 behind 45 gr. Speers, I cooked out about 4" of rifling ahead of the chamber. This did not alter the accuracy of the rifle one wit, but it sure let me know the effects of erosion when using IMR canister powders through a small bore.:)

I have a Ross 05-R here with very little rifling and heavy pitting. It'll smash an 8" gong at 200 with aperture sights all day long. I consider that a good rifle and bore.
