So I'm about to send a barrel away to be chambered and I am going to send a couple dummy rounds to have the throat set.
The rifle will be 243AI feeding out of an AI magazine, shooting the 107 or 115 grain vld bullets.
Basically I want to seat the bullets out as far as possible while still leaving some room to chase the lands.
From what I can gather the AICS mags can run to max OAL length of about 2.93" (some longer) with the front plate removed. Do you figure .08" is enough to chase the lands? Can I get away with less wiggle room before the barrel needs to be set back? I'm not trying to get more barrel life than normal, I just don't want to have to set the barrel back because I can't get to the lands before the barrel is toast.
Those of you running similar cartridges, how much throat erosion are you seeing on average during reasonable barrel life.
I realize that throat erosion depends on about a million different things, I am just asking for general ideas.
Thanks
Derek
