Hi guys,i have a savage 99e lightweight carbine with 20"bl and chambered in .300 sav. From what have read, mine is from the reissue of the E letter and made between 1961 and 1984.I would guess it's closer to an 84 model because of it's pristene condition. The Serial # is A767###.Anyone know the year of manufacture?thanks

Hi I also have 99 e (You probably guessed by my tag). I have been to the site that yogi suggested many times same result as nomad. On my barrel it says Model 99 E Series A Westfield Mass. Cal 300 Sav. On reciever ser# C748###, on barrel next reciever a mark appears to be a 1 and a half an 8, there is no lever code or # that I can find. Any help in finding a year produced I would be thankfull.

Thank you very much Mad Dog. I bought it at gun show last January. It is in nice shape was told by dealer unfired, ran a patch thru it was fired but I would estimate very little. Thanks again.

99E, hopefully you didn't pay over $400 for it.

The "E" in 99E stands for "economy".

They were made with no cartridge counter window or checkering and wore a trigger safety instead of the tang safeties and sometimes even a lesser grade of wood was used in making the 99E's.

Not in the model E or C but if you can find one with a pre one million serial number in 243 they're fairly uncommon. I've been trying to find a model 99R in 243 for years now, still no luck. I'd make it worth someones time if they had one!

Mad Dog I didn,t over pay for it. I knew the e was for economy, yes its not a pretty looker but it is a good shooter. I put a burris fullfield 2 scope on it and i am using it for deer this year. Thanks for the info.
